Workplace first aid: an employer's obligation
In Belgium, the Workplace Well-Being Code (Book I, Title 5 on first aid) requires every employer to organise first aid for their workers. In practice, the company must have trained people, suitable first-aid equipment and clear procedures. The number of first-aiders, their training and their refresher are determined on the basis of a risk assessment, following the advice of the prevention adviser and the Committee for Prevention and Protection at Work (CPPW).
Our training covers all the skills expected of a company first-aider and helps you document the compliance of your first-aid arrangements.
How many first-aiders does my company need?
Contrary to a common belief, Belgian regulations do not set a single, universal ratio. The number of first-aiders follows from the risk assessment specific to your activity: nature of the tasks, team size, working hours, spread of sites, presence of particular risks. In practice, many companies aim for at least one trained first-aider per team and per shift, so that a responder is always available. We can help you size your first-aider team.
How the training runs
The training is delivered in-house, directly at your premises, over approximately 15 hours (spread to suit your constraints: consecutive days or half-days). It alternates short theory and intensive hands-on practice on manikins and training defibrillators. All teaching equipment is provided and travels with our trainers. Scenarios are adapted to your sector and your real risks.
Validity and refresher
To stay effective, first-aid skills must be maintained. A regular refresher · recommended every year · keeps your first-aiders' skills current and integrates guideline updates. Discover our first-aider refresher training.
