Designated person or company first-aider?
In Belgium, the Workplace Well-Being Code (Book I, Title 5) requires every employer to organise first aid. Depending on the risk assessment, there are two levels: in higher-risk companies, certified company first-aiders are required; in lower-risk companies, the employer may appoint one or more designated persons to organise first aid and deliver initial care while waiting for the emergency services.
This training equips exactly those designated persons and helps you document the compliance of your first-aid arrangements.
What does the Workplace Well-Being Code say?
The employer determines, following the advice of the prevention adviser and the Committee for Prevention and Protection at Work (CPPW), the appropriate first-aid measures: trained people, available equipment and procedures. Whether to rely on a designated person (rather than a certified first-aider) follows from this risk assessment.
How the training runs
The training is delivered in-house, directly at your premises, over roughly one day. It alternates short theory and hands-on practice on manikins and training defibrillators. All teaching equipment is provided and travels with our trainers. Scenarios are adapted to your sector and your real risks.
Refresher
To stay effective, skills must be maintained: we recommend a regular refresher. We adapt the frequency and content to how your risks evolve. Get in touch to discuss it.
Frequently asked questions
What is a designated first-aid person?
It is the staff member the employer appoints to organise first aid and deliver initial care, in companies where the risk assessment does not require certified first-aiders. They act while waiting for the emergency services to arrive.
Designated person or first-aider: which do I need?
It depends on your risk assessment. For lower-risk activities, a designated person is enough; for higher risks, certified company first-aiders are required. We help you decide.
How many people should I appoint?
There is no single legal ratio: the number follows from the risk assessment (headcount, working hours, sites). Many companies provide at least one available person per shift.
Is the training compliant with the Workplace Well-Being Code?
Yes. The content covers the role of the designated person and the expected actions, and helps you document the compliance of your first-aid arrangements.
Where does the training take place?
Directly at your site, in Brussels and Walloon Brabant (and beyond on request). We bring manikins, training defibrillators and all the equipment.
How much does the training cost?
The price is set on quote, based on the number of participants and the format. Travel and equipment are included. NGOs and non-profits get −30%. Request a quote: reply within 48 h.
